Referee refuses to shake hands with US captain in Uruguay clash

USA – Kevin Ortega, the referee for the USA vs Uruguay match, refused to shake hands with Christian Pulisic, the captain of the US national team, after the end of the match between the two teams in the Copa America.

The US national team, the host and the fans, bid farewell to the “Copa America 2024” tournament in a shameful manner after losing to its guest, Uruguay, with a goal by Matias Olivera.

Despite having qualified in advance, Uruguay won (1-0), passing the group stage with a perfect score.

During the match, Pulisic got angry at referee Kevin Ortega, who refused to call a foul in favor of the US star.

After the match, Pulisic went to shake hands with Kevin Ortega, but the latter refused to extend his hand and exchange greetings. Pulisic kept raising his hand, but the referee completely ignored him.

The United States players did not provide anything that would justify their progress in the tournament that is being held on their land as a preparatory dress rehearsal for hosting the Club World Cup in 2025 and the World Cup for national teams in 2026, except for some timid attempts by Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic.

Uruguay topped Group 3 with 9 points, followed by Panama, who came in second (6 points), after beating Bolivia (3-1) at the same time, and advanced ahead of Uncle Sam, who came in third (3 points).

The “Celestial” will meet in the quarter-finals the second-place team in Group D, which will be determined by the match between Brazil and Colombia, which will be held at dawn on Thursday and will determine the first and second place teams.
