The price of a barrel of oil is part of the collateral damage of the war between Russia and Ukraine. At the beginning of March, its price even came close to the absolute record of 140 dollars. A worrying situation that has led the International Energy Agency (IEA) to propose a concrete plan, in the hands of States, but also of citizens, to reverse the trend.
In the report of this agency headed by Fatih Birol regarding ten key practices are proposed. Speaking in a media, the latter indicates that: “Our proposal is 10 km/h for cars and truckshe explains. If the limit is 120 km/h, it is increased to 110 km/h. If we do this in all Western countries, by imposing sanctions on Russia, we will achieve major oil savings“.
The AIE also proposes to make public transport cheaper, or to develop teleworking. According to Fatih Birol, these measures, added together, would save 2.7 million barrels per day.
“If there are no good surprises, we might experience the first global energy shock – oil, natural gas, electricity. If we do not take urgent measures, we will face a shock”, he specifies.
