The US State Department said “frank and productive” discussions were held in Beijing on Monday, among the latest efforts to try to reduce tensions between the two countries after two potentially dangerous military incidents in recent weeks.
Over the weekend in the Taiwan Strait, a Chinese warship appeared to cut dangerously close to a US Navy destroyer that avoided a collision by suddenly reducing speed.
And last month, a Chinese fighter jet intercepted a US spy plane in international airspace.
