Knowing the harmful consequences of sugar on the body, how to reduce its consumption, learning to cook with different sugars and thus becoming aware of and active in its consumption: this is an important issue for the Terri’Ain association.
Its twenty members aim to promote ecology and health, starting with the plate. Present during the Eco Solid’ère festival which takes place in June 2023, Terri’Ain also offers vegetable baskets every week in partnership with the Biodélices farm in Saint-Julien-sur-Veyle.
The association, which is rather accustomed to offering evening shows followed by an intervention and a debate, innovates by offering, at the François-Édouard media library in Châtillon, a meeting on the theme of sugar: “Sugar, your child and YOU “. This intervention will be presented by a naturopath, Isabelle Carrette, Wednesday January 31 (at 3 p.m. at the media library. Tel. 04 74 55 07 48. Free).
Sensitive to junk food, Raphaël offers alternatives to sugar consumption
« The project was born last year. A member of the association, Raphaël, is sensitive to the subject of bad food, obesity and diabetes. It offers parents, but also everyone, an intervention to explain the dangers of sugar on the development of children but also and above all to propose alternatives in order to reduce sugar consumption while having fun.“, explains Nicolas Duchemin, the president of the association.
For Sabrina, mother of two teenagers, a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, “ lThe objective of this intervention is first of all for my children to hear a speech other than mine; children are often more receptive with other people. I would like them to become aware of the impact that sugar consumption can have, that we can enjoy ourselves without being in excess. I also come to look for other avenues, other ideas that are not in our eating habits and thus to have an alternative to offer them« .
“Sugar is everywhere! »
Acidification of the body, inflammatory reactions, decline in the immune system and many other short and long term consequences are certain deleterious effects observed on the body during excessive sugar consumption.
« I realized when reading product labels that sugar is everywhere, even in savory dishes. It is used as a preservative“, testifies Nicole, retired. She will participate in this meeting. “ I already have an intolerance to wheat, I would like some good advice to replace sugar. One day, I made a cake recipe found in a magazine, without flour and without sugar, I enjoyed it. I hope to have several recipes to make when it comes out.« .
During the intervention, the librarians will offer readings on the theme of food to younger children in order to allow parents to take full advantage of the advice provided. To close this moment of exchange, a shared snack will be offered by the Terri’Ain association.
