Sodium, the main component of salt, is an essential nutrient for maintaining the function of the human body. The problem is that most modern people consume excessive sodium. As the saying goes, “too much is too little too little,” and excessive intake of sodium, an essential nutrient, can increase the risk of high blood pressure.

Most modern people are aware of the challenge of reducing sodium intake. However, contrary to one’s expectations, the fact that there are many foods that contain ‘surprisingly’ large amounts of sodium acts as an obstacle. There is a high possibility that you are consuming a large amount of sodium but are not aware of it. Let’s look at three foods in our daily lives that contain large amounts of sodium.

▲ Salad dressing

Even salad dressings that claim to be low in calories may contain large amounts of sodium. This is because the salty taste of sodium makes up for the taste gap created by reducing calories. This is why you need to check the sodium content even when buying low-calorie dressing.

▲ Soup dishes

It is considered the main culprit in increasing sodium intake among Koreans. It is difficult to perceive the soup itself as salty because it is cooked so that the seasoning is appropriate when eating one or two spoonfuls. However, if you consume a large amount of broth, your total sodium intake will also skyrocket. Therefore, when eating dishes containing soup, such as ramen, getting into the habit of eating mainly the ingredients will help prevent high blood pressure.

▲ Pasta sauce

Pasta, which is considered a ‘health food’, is also a food to be careful of in terms of sodium content. This is because many tomato sauce products contain a large amount of sodium. Therefore, if you need to reduce your sodium intake for reasons such as high blood pressure, it is advisable to eat pasta made with olive oil.
