Chlordecone impacts human health, particularly infants. However, reducing your exposure to this pesticide is possible, mainly by changing your diet. The ARS has decided to particularly target pregnant women who, following measuring the level of Chlordecone in their blood, can benefit from specific support.
As part of the fight once morest the harmful effects of Chlordecone on human health, the Regional Health Agency of Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy (ARS) intends to pay particular attention to pregnant women. Its prevention policy has therefore been broadened and a specific support program is now open, in partnership with health professionals.
As a reminder, the Chlordecone blood test, also called Chlordeconemia, is free and open to all Guadeloupe residents. This device makes it possible to measure the level of this pesticide in people’s bodies.
Depending on the results, support is offered to them, with the aim of reducing or even eliminating this substance from the body and reducing their exposure. It is regarding adopting new eating habits, since the plate is the main source of contamination of humans by this molecule.
Adopting new consumption habits makes it possible to eliminate the molecule from the body in a few months.

Future mothers interested in the enhanced program dedicated to them must, to participate, follow the following guidelines:
They must go to their gynecologist or midwife for their first consultation. Chlordecone dosage will be offered, at the same time as the traditional pregnancy blood test, as well as participation in the “Chlorgua” research project.
The midwife can also offer a free consultation with a dietitian to discuss illnesses caused by diet during pregnancy; They are then asked to contact the medical biology laboratory closest to their home, to take the sample, according to the prescription; The laboratory will transmit the analysis result. There is nothing to pay for this dosage. During the second consultation, the midwife suggests that patients participate in a group workshop on the theme of Chlordecone and diet.
