The study was led by researchers from McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences at the Population Health Research Institute.
Specifically, researchers have identified the foods to eat to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.
Food for heart attack and stroke
To find out, the scientists analyzed data from 245.000 personas in 80 countries from multiple studies. The researchers developed a healthy eating score and followed it for nearly 10 years.
So, people with a score of 5 or more, that is, those who ate 5 of the foods considered healthy had a lower risk of mortality and cardiovascular disease.
The six foods considered essential to prevent cardiovascular diseases (heart attacks and stroke) are:
fruits Vegetables Legumes Walnuts Fish whole milk products
“Moderate amounts of fish and full-fat dairy products are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality. The same health outcomes can be achieved with moderate consumption of grains and meats, as long as they are unrefined whole grains and raw meats,” said Andrew Mente, one of the study authors.
He added: “There is a big recent focus on increased consumption of protective foods for disease prevention. In addition to larger amounts of fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes, we show that moderation is key in eating natural foods.”
In addition, the researchers warn that not eating enough of these six foods is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
“A diet comprised of higher amounts of fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, fish, and full-fat dairy is associated with lower cardiovascular disease and mortality in all regions of the world, especially in lower-income countries where consumption of these foods It is low. These findings support the importance of a healthy diet as a strategy to prevent cardiovascular diseases globally”, they concluded.
Symptoms of cardiovascular diseases
Now, regarding the symptoms of cardiovascular disease, the WHO says that heart attack and stroke can often be the first sign that cardiovascular disease exists. So what do we have to watch out for?
These the heart attack symptoms:
Pain or discomfort in the center of the chest
