Design and connectivity
Redmi Note 12 4G
As they are two very modest devices within the intermediate segment, they only have a plastic construction on the sides and rear. The matte finish is present on both, to give them a touch of a more expensive device. The Note 12 is the thinnest and lightest, while the G23 has the smallest dimensions in height and width.
At least, Redmi differentiates itself with IP53 certification, for resistance once morest dust and splashes, something absent in the Moto. On the back, both Xiaomi and Motorola opt for a more discreet square block, with the same color as the lid and highlighting the two main cameras in the set.
Motorola Moto G23
The Note 12 and G23 use a hole-shaped notch centered on the display, to allow for smaller edges. Not to mention the same option on both for the fingerprint reader integrated into the power button. The Chinese version also comes with an infrared emitter, which turns your cell phone into your TV’s remote control.
Both allow for storage expansion, but only the Redmi Note contains a dedicated microSD card slot. Moto opts for the hybrid drawer, which shares the space with the second operator chip. In connectivity, we have Wi-Fi and fifth generation Bluetooth in both. NFC is only present in some variants of the Note 12, depending on the region.
The more resistant design gives the first point to Xiaomi.

Bodies
The Redmi has a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen, which is larger than the Moto’s 6.5-inch LCD display. The material used by the Chinese also guarantees a higher level of brightness, better colors and greater frontal use.
But not only that. The Note 12 offers the best image definition with its Full HD+ resolution, as the G23 is limited to HD+ only. Apart from the presence of a 120 Hz refresh rate, which allows for greater smoothness in the system’s animations compared to the 90 Hz panel used by Motorola.
Xiaomi even added Gorilla Glass 3 protection to its device to provide additional protection once morest scratches. It’s a shame that none of these models support HDR, which would improve video playback in compatible streams.
The Chinese makes one more point.

As
In audio, we have the opposite scenario of what we saw in the previous screen. Here Xiaomi preferred to save money and left only one speaker on its cell phone. In turn, Motorola decided to invest in this and installed a stereo system, which uses the call sound output as a secondary channel, to improve user immersion.
The result in practice is a superior sound power in the G23, even if the Note 12 is not bad for mono audio. The Moto also delivers the best balance between bass, mids and treble, in addition to supporting Dolby Atmos technology.
These manufacturers no longer send headphones in the package, but at least we have a P2 standard connector in the pair, to allow you to connect any common accessory.
It’s a point for Motorola in sound.

System
Both come out of the box with Android 13 natively. Both will receive version 14 of the “little robot”, but only Xiaomi will be able to have a longer lifespan in terms of updates.
In any case, you won’t find 5G technology on these smartphones here, so be prepared to be limited to the 4G mobile network. Although the Redmi has a higher rate and steals 2 GB of storage to expand the RAM, the Moto balances the duel in terms of a more fluid experience, thanks to its cleaner interface.
In terms of features, the Note 12 stands out for the various customizations offered by the Chinese company. On the other hand, Motorola did not leave out its famous gestures to turn on the flashlight or activate the camera in a more practical way.
Greater longevity once morest better features. We give one point for each system.

Performance
Redmi debuts the Snapdragon 685 as its mobile platform, once morest the Helio G85 that powers the Moto. Both with the same 4 Giga of RAM, which one has the fastest performance? Both did not demonstrate good performance when holding apps in the background, but the G23 still managed to finish both rounds with a 16 second advantage over the Note 12.
Moving on to the benchmarks, we have an opposite scenario. The Chinese record the highest scores, with around 25% more than the competitor on AnTuTu. In games, the Qualcomm GPU used by Xiaomi also achieves results above that of MediaTek present in Motorola.
The G23 stands out for its best multitasking performance; and the Note 12 scores for superior benchmarks and games.

Battery
The 5,000 mAh capacity battery has become almost a market standard, and these two cell phones are here to confirm that. But the same capacity does not mean similar autonomy. In our practical tests, we saw the Redmi last more than 28 hours, a time almost four hours longer than the Moto.
And even when we go to recharge, the situation doesn’t change. The 33 W adapter sent by Xiaomi allows you to reach 100% in just over an hour. The time is less than half the 2 hours and 10 minutes that the Motorola smartphone needs to complete the process, with its 20 W TurboPower.
The Chinese calmly takes one more point.

On both sides, we find a triple set of rear cameras, led by the 50 MP main sensor. With it, the duo is able to take good photos in well-lit places. Even so, the Moto still does better in the dynamic range, in addition to delivering a more efficient night mode.
The ultrawide of the two presents a big drop in terms of sharpness, when compared to the main one. The Note 12 may have the best resolution here, but it is the G23 that nails the images once morest the light and this lens also has a hybrid capability to serve in portrait mode as well.
Finally, we have the just 2 MP macro camera on these devices. Both the one and the other suffer from low resolution and the lack of autofocus.
In the details, we give the point to Motorola.

The camcorder on these devices does not go beyond Full HD videos at 30 fps, but at least it provides agile focus. Redmi has the advantage here of having electronic stabilization, to deal with shakes, and stereo sound capture, for a higher quality than the Moto’s mono-only audio.
In this way, the Note 12 scores once more.

The Redmi’s front camera is 13 MP, while the Moto’s is 16 MP. The small difference in resolution is not so apparent during the day, when both take good selfies and record a decent portrait mode, even without being as efficient with backlight.
At night, it’s the G23 that stands out, with less blurry photos than those seen on the Note 12. In frontal recordings, none of them go beyond Full HD at 30 fps.

These devices became officially available in Brazil. The Redmi Note 12 was launched for R$2,000 in the country, above the suggested price of R$1,600 charged by the Moto G23. In the current market, although the difference between them is smaller, the Motorola model is the only one found for less than R$900 at retail.
Therefore, the G23 ends the duel with the last point.

Finished
And the confrontation between Xiaomi and Motorola had no winner on the scoreboard. And now, which one should you choose? The decision will depend on what matters most to you in a smartphone.
If you want a design that is resistant to dust and splashes, a higher quality screen, better performance in games and a battery that lasts longer and takes less time to plug in, the Redmi Note 12 is the best option.
If your preference is for a cell phone that has stereo sound, better multitasking performance and cameras that take better photos on the back and record superior selfies, especially at night, the best alternative is the Moto G23. Not to mention that this is the cheapest at the moment on the national market, which may attract those who want to save more when purchasing.
