Redmi 12 bets on the large OLED screen and neat design with glass back | analysis

The Redmi 12 is Xiaomi’s newest entry-level cell phone that recently hit the market. Does it bring many advances compared to the previous ones and can it overcome rivals from Samsung and Motorola in terms of cost-effectiveness?

Xiaomi has taken care of the design by bringing a device with a look in line with the current trend with a flat back and sides. Its highlight is the glass piece that covers the entire back of the device, while others in the segment come with a simple plastic body. It also has a minimalist design with no bouncing block for cameras.

Here we have a large 6.79-inch screen with Full HD+ resolution and 90 Hz refresh rate. The panel is of the IPS LCD type and has good brightness and above-segment contrast for vibrant and accurate colors. The sound part might be better, since the only speaker is not very powerful and also fails in the reproduction of vocals.

Performance is due to the Helio G88 chip, old hardware present in the Redmi 10 launched in 2021. There is 4 GB of RAM with the possibility of using another 4 GB of storage, but even so, we still see Xiaomi’s basics suffer to hold many apps open.

The 5,000 mAh battery delivers good autonomy, despite not standing out once morest rivals. The recharge time is also slower than it should be, even though the cell phone comes with a 22.5W charger. The photographic set was inherited from the old model and is still not impressive, but it makes good pictures in favorable situations. The camcorder records in Full HD, does not have efficient stabilization and sound capture is mono.

Is it worth buying the Redmi 12? If you are a fan of Xiaomi, you will enjoy the company’s new basics, but there are more interesting options at a similar price, as you can see in our full review below:
