Red Sox vs Orioles: Tanner Houck’s Stellar Pitching Leads Boston to Victory in Regular Season Finale

BALTIMORE — Tanner Houck pitched one-hit ball in six innings and the last-place Boston Red Sox split the two-game series with the American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles with a 6-1 victory Sunday in the last match of the regular season.

The Orioles have home-field advantage for the entire American League playoffs and will host Game 1 of the division series on October 7.

Houck (6-10) did not allow a hit until Anthony Santander singled to center with two outs in the sixth. Houck had six strikeouts and three walks in 87 pitches.

Boston finished with a 78-84 record, the same record as last year.

Kyl Bradish, who might start the first game of the division series, pitched two scoreless innings, striking out five.

For the Red Sox, the Dominicans Wilyer Abreu 3-1, one run scored; Rafael Devers 1-0; and Emmanuel Valdez 3-1, two runs scored.

For the Orioles, Venezuelan Anthony Santander is 4-1. Mexican Ramón Urías 1-0.
