The Red Panthers had announced the color with a touch of arrogance before arriving in Mönchengladbach: a final, even the gold medal.
“I’m so proud of the team, said the sole scorer of the semi-final, Emily White. And Emma Puvrez to add: “It’s hard to find the words. I’m happy to see how everyone gave their all until the last second.”
Thirty minutes after their success, they were all singing in chorus: “We are in the final, we are in the final.”
After doing the job in the group stage, they beat the fourth in the world in the semi-finals after a complicated match. The Red Panthers were able to count on a gala defense. “We had a plan. We kept it. We had to defend without counting and play the few counterattacks. Everything went as planned,” said White again. “The Germans didn’t surprise me. Mentally, we pulled out all the stops to hold on until the end.”
Now on to the final against the Netherlands, the ultimate challenge. “We obviously won’t be favorites against the world No. 1,” said Emily White, who now wants to score her second goal in a big game. “We will have nothing to lose. We will try to resist and play our defensive game.”
Almost nothing to lose… At the end of the final, an Olympic qualification awaits the European champions.
