Researchers said that two essential items in our daily diet might be the reason for the high incidence of colon cancer among people under the age of 50.

And according to the British newspaper “Daily Mail”, a new study showed that red meat and sugar, which are two main components of our diet, might be behind the “mysterious rise” of colon cancer in young people, especially in the United States.

This study comes at a time when colon cancer deaths among people under the age of 40 are expected to double by 2030. This type is also expected to be the number one cause of cancer deaths in young people by the end of the decade.

The study, published by a research team at the Cleveland Clinic, found that eating red meat and sugar were linked to the incidence of colon cancer at a young age.

“These two elements really do have a very strong relationship with the incidence of colon cancer,” said Dr. Sunil Kamath, a gastrointestinal oncologist at Cleveland Clinic and senior author of the study.

“It’s something that hasn’t been reported before in colon cancer research,” he added.

Dr. Kamath stressed that there is sufficient evidence to suggest that it is good to reduce the intake of red meat and sugar, but highlighted that more research is needed in this regard.
