The Red Lions faced Spain, with in sight, a place in the last four of the competition, assured in case of success. The Belgians will have taken things in hand quickly, since the score was already 2-0 at the end of the first quarter. Ghislain had opened the scoring, before a penalty-corner from Hendrickx allowed our national team to make the break, very quickly.
Van Aubel driving the point home again at the very beginning of the second quarter, after a good action in the opposing circle. Opposite, Spain, very shy, only rarely managed to worry a very serene Belgium, despite an alert at the very start of the second half.
But as the game calmed down, the Spaniards managed to close the gap, via Basterra, 3 minutes from the end of the third quarter. Hendrickx managed to revive our national team, scoring his second goal twelve minutes from time. Onana drove the nail in stride.
With this victory, the Red Lions fly into the semi-finals and are almost assured of first place in their group. They will return to the field on Wednesday against Austria.
