Red Dead Redemption 2 has received a mega PC update

A nearly 3GB update to Red Dead Redemption 2, but what’s the point? There is one important reason…

facts

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best single player video game experiences money can buy. Red Dead Online is a different story, but it’s still there if you pick up the open world game. Many have hoped that Rockstar would not abandon the title and upgrade it with new content. And a Red Dead Redemption 2-Update auf Steam with a size of almost 3 GB would also have indicated it.

A whopping update of 2.89 gigabytes. On Reddit, players of RDR2 aren’t quite sure what it’s for, as there’s no new content. At least not the obvious ones. At least one storefront screenshot clearly shows that it’s a lot of data. The date also shows that it is not just any old update.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Update presents players with a big puzzle

So before you can continue riding, a fairly massive update is announced. On Reddit, players are guessing what it is for, because not much has changed in the game world itself. Theories abound, but the patch is tied to recent security issues in GTA Online. A serious exploit discovered with the PC version of GTA Online allowed modders to mess with other people’s accounts. Things went so far that some players’ accounts were banned.

A 2.89 Gb update dropped today on Steam. What??? from RedDeadOnline

Security update also for Red Dead Online

Even though there are far fewer players in Red Dead Online, it only makes sense to apply the security update there as well. At the current time, only the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 or Red Dead Online has been provided with the major update, so it should be clear why the download of almost 3 GB is necessary.

Why not just read the patch notes? Good question, but the answer is very sparse. There is only: General maintenance (February 7, 2023).

At least one important thing has also been patched, according to Red Dead Net. The long-standing bug that caused the game to “soft-lock” following visiting a stable has been fixed, at least on the PC version. Took quite a long time, but Rockstar finally made it.

Players looking forward to a sequel to Red Dead Redemption 2 will probably have to wait many years. Take-Two’s CEO hasn’t ruled out a sequel. Somehow a Red Read Redemption 3 seems “inevitable”. In the meantime, however, the team will be busy developing GTA 6, whose expectations are similarly high.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available for Windows PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The game is also playable on PS5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, but only via backwards compatibility. A native next-gen version has not yet been an issue.
