Third place in the “Crisis Management” category – Peter Kaiser, Deputy Red Cross General Secretary: “Nice recognition for important work!”

Vienna (OTS) The volunteers of the Team Austria Tafeln can look forward to third place in the awarding of the State Prize for Voluntary and Honorary Commitment in the “Crisis Management” category. The award was presented on December 4th in the Q21 of the Vienna Museumsquartier by State Secretary Claudia Plakolm to Peter Kaiser, the Deputy Secretary General of the Austrian Red Cross, and Ö3 broadcaster boss Michael Pauser. “This is a nice sign of recognition for all employees who voluntarily carry out an important activity at the Team Austria Tafeln,” said Kaiser regarding the award from the total of 225 submissions, which comes with prize money of 1,000 euros (the sum of course benefits the Team Austria Tafel). “The Team Austria panels show how strong the power of radio is to bring people together to do good. “Thank you for the tireless work that the many volunteers do to help others,” said Ö3 broadcaster Pauser.

About the Team Austria boards
Since 2010, the Team Austria Tafeln, a joint initiative of the Red Cross and Hitradio Ö3, have been collecting perfectly good food that is no longer for sale. A total of 123 distribution points serve 26,700 households across Austria. In 2022 alone, there were 413,470 food pickups from the Team Austria Tafeln. The almost 6,000 volunteers provided more than 400,000 hours of volunteer service for the Team Austria Tafeln in 2022. The goods are donated by supermarkets, local grocery stores, bakers, vegetable farmers or directly from the producers. As long as food is available, the Team Austria Tafel offer is available to those people who need this support. The so-called at-risk-of-poverty threshold (60% of the median income according to Statistics Austria) serves as a guide.

Team Austria volunteers regarding the award and their work

Sabine Binder, head of the Vienna issuing office, was present at the award ceremony of the State Prize on behalf of her colleagues. She said regarding the award: “I am pleased that our work is being recognized in this way on the eve of International Voluntary Day on December 5th. Our employees always help people in need with a lot of effort and commitment, they really deserve this award.” Binder’s Tyrolean colleague Oswald Trentinaglia adds: “The number of our clients is unfortunately high in the wake of the corona pandemic and rising prices grown. We hope that our work can continue to provide a little support and hope.”

Christmas packages for affected families

The Christmas season is particularly difficult for families in financial distress. A banquet with friends and relatives, gifts for the children, a small treat such as chocolate or pastries – all of this is often not affordable. There is only enough money for the bare essentials, special expenses are simply not possible. At the Team Austria Tafeln, the Red Cross tries to provide a little joy during Advent with special Christmas packages. On the last Saturday before Christmas, the 123 Team Austria food banks distributed 5,000 Christmas packages with donated goods to families in need. This includes food such as chocolate or pasta, but also hygiene products that are otherwise rarely donated to the food banks.

If you need the support of the Team Austria Tafeln, would like to help or if you are an entrepreneur and would like to donate food: information regarding this is available online http://oe3.orf.at/teamoesterreichby calling Ö3 on 0800 / 600 600 or in all Red Cross offices in the country.
