Hundreds of Red Cross forces, mostly volunteers, have been helping in Styria, Carinthia and Slovenia since yesterday. Donations are requested!

Vienna (OTS) Last night, numerous houses in the Leibnitz region had to be evacuated due to the heavy rainfall. This includes a nursing home and a retirement home. Emergency shelters have been set up, people are receiving medical and psychosocial care and are provided with the essentials.

Red Cross Aid in Carinthia and Slovenia

Shortly before four o’clock last night there was an emergency doctor’s call in Mežica. Hannes Topar moved out. dr Topar were able to bring a 14-day-old baby safely to the Klagenfurt clinic together with his mother. Thanks to the preparations of the Red Cross to enable bilateral missions on the Slovenian side, the little earthling might be helped quickly and effectively. The little patient is fine once more. dr Topar: “With all the dreadful situations in the last two days, missions that go well like this, when we can help a little person and everything turns out well, are a real ray of hope!”

In St. Paul im Lavanttal, 31 people were cared for overnight in the emergency quarters.

Evacuations are currently being prepared in Bad Eisenkappel in the Völkermarkt district, with the Red Cross providing support. The crisis intervention team is also alarmed.

Red Cross Aid in Styria

Persistent rain caused the water levels in the Leibnitz municipality to rise further on Saturday night. So much so that numerous residential buildings had to be evacuated by the Red Cross and the fire brigade. This also includes the nursing home “Haus der Senioren” in Kaindorf, which held 27 people at the time of the evacuation, who were taken to the Althea senior citizens’ home “Koralmblick” in Frauental.

In the district of Radkersburg, a sports hall was converted into emergency accommodation and equipped with camp beds. The Red Cross field kitchen provides food.

The Red Cross crisis intervention team is also deployed in the Leibnitz and Radkersburg districts.
