Red Bull is slightly ahead of Ferrari, according to Marko

The Austrian assures that they rolled heavily loaded with gasoline in the Barcelona tests

He thinks they won’t need much time to fix the RB18’s problems

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko sees his team slightly ahead of Ferrari following the first tests of 2022 in Barcelona. The Austrian maintains that the energy drink brand has run on more fuel than its rivals and to date, they are happy with the performance of their RB18.

After three days of heavy action in Barcelona, Marko believes that Red Bull is one step above Ferrari and that in terms of speed, they have nothing to envy to Mercedes. Those from Milton Keynes hit the track with a greater amount of gasoline than their opponents and will not show their real potential until Bahrain.

“I am quite sure that in Barcelona we have worked with more gasoline than most teams. For that reason, I think that we are not inferior in speed to Mercedes and that we are slightly ahead of Ferrari“, Marko has acknowledged in words published by the GMM news agency.

Marko assures that the first sensations of Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez at the controls of the RB18 have been good. The Red Bull car has been born well, but they still have some weak points, such as the overweight that the Austrian already mentioned. Of course, he does not think it will take them too long to find a solution.

We are satisfied with the shooting we have done during the three days of testing and also with the performance shown. The drivers got into the car and felt comfortable, so the first impression was very good. We still have weak points, but they seem to be flexible enough to be fixed with little technical effort,” he added.

On the other hand, George Russell denies that he has looked carefully at the time table of these first three days of preseason. The British remarks that the only thing he is pending is to carry out the shooting program of Mercedes successfully and advises fans not to pay attention to the ranking.

“I don’t pay any kind of attention to the times at the moment, I don’t have time for that. The only thing I can assure you is that we are working with a complex program and that we don’t care regarding qualifying at all. Fans shouldn’t watch too much either.“, Russell has expressed to close.
