Red Bull Racing F1 team boss Christian Horner says he is “carefully” watching Alexander Albon’s performance in the Williams F1 team this season.
After confirming George Russell’s move to Mercedes F1 last year, the Williams F1 team chose to sign Alexander Albon after extensive consideration, including Fleece at Nick.
26-year-old Alex Albon spent a year as a test and reserve driver at Red Bull, but didn’t feel a blank for a year and was faster than his long-time teammate Nicholas Latifi from the very beginning.
Alex Albon’s deal with Williams F1 is not a loan transfer, but Red Bull Racing has the option to buy back Albon.
Asked if he was paying attention to Alex Albon’s performance, Christian Horner told Paddock Magazine, “Of course!”
“Alex is a skilled driver and has a decent job. Personally, I’m pretty impressed with his performance this year.”
Therefore, although details of the terms and conditions are unknown, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko may choose to bring Alex Albon back.
At Scuderia AlphaTauri, Yuki Tsunoda has fallen into a slump again and has yet to secure an F1 seat for 2023. Therefore, Red Bull F1 leaders need to improve before considering the return of Alex Albon.
There are also options for F2 Jehan Daruvala and Liam Lawson.
Alex Albon says he’s had a “great season” with Williams F1 and doesn’t think he’ll be back in Red Bull anytime soon.
“We’re focused on this season and we’ll see what happens in the future,” said Alex Albon.
