Red Bull Racing’s F1 team representative Christian Horner says the rivalry between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc in a fierce battle for the 2022 F1 title is full of “heartfelt respect.” ..
Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc have each won two wins in the first four races of 2022. However, Verstappen’s two retirements have led Leclerc to 27 points ahead of the drivers’ championship.
The battle for their victory was fierce and tight, but Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen are showing a clean fight despite the history of the karting era when they hit the wheels many times.
“At Kurt, I remember it was either me or him, which is why I hated each other at some point, because it often didn’t end in the best possible way. “Yeah,” Charles Leclerc recently told Imola.
“But it was a good time. I think there are two completely different driving styles. One wins and the other wins. But it’s fun. I like it.”
Christian Horner said the by-product of those Kurt eras was that both protagonists shared respect.
“I think they grew up racing each other on carts and so on, and they know each other very well,” said Christian Horner.
“They are from the same generation and there is a sincere respect between them.”
“But they are certain to have a very competitive fight in Miami two weeks later, and I think it will be throughout the season.”
Sky Sports F1 expert Nico Rosberg says the track battle between Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen is very new to F1.
But 2016 F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg is afraid that things will become “more intense” over time between the two Young Guns.
“I think they’ve kicked off from last year’s finish, except that it’s not Max vs. Lewis. Now it’s Verstappen vs. Leclerc, and the fight is just as fun,” said Nico Rosberg.
“It’s not that fierce yet, but if they keep doing it like that, there’s a point where they touch, clash, and things get a little more fierce.”
