Red Bull F1 representative “Hard tires sacrificed Mercedes’ two wins”[F1-Gate.com]

Red Bull F1 team principal Christian Horner grinned that the hard tires cost Mercedes F1 two victories.

Red Bull Racing and the Mercedes F1 team chose different strategies for the F1 Mexico Grand Prix. In the end Max Verstappen, who opted for the medium for the second stint, performed better and was able to cross his line to finish first with a big lead over Lewis Hamilton.

The Mercedes F1 team’s strategy was not an option for Red Bull Racing. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell adopted a different strategy of starting on the mediums before changing to the hard tyres. Red Bull and Ferrari have opted for a soft-to-medium strategy. In the end it proved to be the right choice.

“I’m surprised that Mercedes chose such a conservative approach,” Horner told Auto Motor und Sport.

“Dietrich Mateschitz taught me to take risks. The strategy was definitely aggressive.”

“The important thing was that Max controlled the softs very well in the first stint. He knows what he needs from the tires. rice field”

Lewis Hamilton finished the race with hard tires at the F1 American GP. In the closing stages of the race, there was no chance to match Max Verstappen in the medium. And the same thing happened in Mexico.

“Those tires cost Mercedes two wins,” said Horner with a grin.

Sergio Perez failed to overtake Lewis Hamilton at medium. After the race, Perez made it clear that he had difficulty following other cars on the track, and no overtaking occurred.

But Christian Horner said Perez could have finished second had his pit stop not gone awry.

“I think we would have won with the same strategy, but definitely we would have been closer,” added Horner.
