Red Bull F1 put on hold for lightweight chassis to avoid budget cap controversy[F1-Gate.com]

Red Bull Racing has denied reports that it is planning a major update to the RB18’s chassis that will reduce the weight by 4kg, but a lighter chassis does exist and is on hold. reports Motorsport Italy.

It’s no secret that Red Bull Racing’s cars have had an overweight problem this season. Rumors surfaced during the Dutch Grand Prix that Red Bull would soon introduce a lighter chassis that would cut the RB18’s weight by 4kg.

But Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner denied reports that the team had nothing planned in the short term and that a lightweight chassis would not exist.

According to Motorsport Italy, Red Bull Racing has a lighter chassis and was planning to conduct crash tests at the Cranfield Impact Center before the summer break in order to apply for FIA homologation. Initially, this was thought to be next year’s chassis, but homologation sessions for 2023 have yet to begin.

It is said that there are other teams besides Red Bull that want to introduce a lighter chassis, but it is unclear which one. In any case, the Italian media believes the lightweight chassis will remain at Milton Keynes for the foreseeable future, fearing controversy over the budget cap.

Ferrari F1 team principal Mattia Binotto has said Ferrari will never be able to introduce a lighter chassis at this point in the season due to budget caps.

However, Max Verstappen is currently showing unbeatable strength, so Red Bull Racing may have decided to hold off on a major update. In any case, the update will not be introduced at the Singapore Grand Prix.
