Helmut Marko of Red Bull F1 explained why Red Bull felt it was important to find a way to make F1 engines self-sufficient.
Red Bull established its own engine division, Red Bull Powertrains, to cover the engine after Honda withdrew from F1. Helmut Marko revealed that the idea came from a toothache that couldn’t be input to its former engine partner, Renault.
Helmut Marko was asked why Red Bull decided to set up a Red Bull powertrain division to become an engine manufacturer and supplier on its own, like Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault (Alpine). rice field.
“It’s important not only from a technical point of view, but also from a psychological point of view,” Helmut Marko explained.
“These engine makers have their own teams, so you can get what you’re given.”

Helmut Marko added that Red Bull F1 felt it was important to move in a direction like Ferrari or Mercedes to eliminate reliance on third-party suppliers.
“You can put something there, but you can’t influence it. That was our idea,” Helmut Marko said.
“That was a big advantage of Ferrari. The important thing is to form a single unit across the car and engine concept, which is why it also happens on our premises.”
Work is currently underway at full speed to run the F1 powertrain division on the Red Bull campus in Milton Keynes.
Recently, Red Bull F1 team representative Christian Horner has revealed that the plant is planned to go online in mid-2022.
Helmut Marko says he is excited about the progress and growth of the company since he entered F1 with the acquisition of Jaguar in late 2004.
