Red Bull F1 leader “Ferrari is weakened by the departure of Mattia Binotto”[F1-Gate.com]

Helmut Marko, a motorsport adviser to Red Bull F1, believes the Ferrari F1 team has been weakened by the departure of Mattia Binotto.

Shortly following the 2022 season, Ferrari announced that it had accepted Mattia Binotto’s resignation. Binotto has ended his four-year stint as Ferrari’s F1 team principal.

Alfa Romeo F1 team principal Frédéric Vasseur arrives at Ferrari as his successor.

In the 2022 Formula 1 season, Ferrari endured a difficult season as strategic mistakes, unreliability and on-track mistakes wrecked its strong early-season form.

In an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, Helmut Marko said Ferrari is currently weakening as a team due to restructuring.

“In the case of Ferrari, I don’t really understand the change,” he said.

“I think of Binotto as a great engineer and politician.”

“He was simply overwhelmed with the task, but I think it was enough to have the sporting director by his side to support him with track and strategy.”

“With a new guy with many other jobs, I see it as a weakening for Ferrari.”

Asked whether Red Bull and Mercedes would be winners amid F1’s personnel changes, Helmut Marko replied: “Definitely, through stability and continuity.”

Red Bull Racing dominated both championships in 2022, winning both the drivers’ and constructors’ titles with a few rounds to go.

After great success in the first few years of the turbo-hybrid era, Mercedes struggled with form for most of the year before taking its only win of the season at the penultimate round of the Brazilian Grand Prix. .

Helmut Marko sees Mercedes as a bigger threat than Ferrari in 2023.

“Like I said at the beginning, they are a more stable team,” said Helmut Marko.

“And they have Hamilton. He may have dropped down the order this year, but he’s a very special driver.”

“In that time he has shown many times that he is the top man in lap times. It is simply a much stronger package than Ferrari.”
