“Domenicali called Mateschitz at the request of his bosses”

Stefano Domenicali has reportedly joined his predecessor as F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone in pressuring Christian Horner to consider a quiet move away from Red Bull.
At the request of the Austrian parent company, Horner, 50, met for eight hours last Friday with Red Bull’s appointed independent lawyer tasked with investigating alleged “inappropriate behavior.”
Auto Bild correspondent Ralf Bach says the lawyer has now gone on vacation and the outcome of his investigation is not yet known. The saga is expected to continue well following the launch of the Red Bull 2024 car this week (Thursday evening at 8 p.m.) and probably also the start of pre-season testing.
“The precise subject of these allegations is still not publicly known. The only thing that is certain is that the person, a middle manager, whose name is known but whom we are not publishing for confidentiality reasons , felt under pressure.”
“The manner in which the alleged coercion was carried out is not compatible with modern moral standards,” Bach added, admitting that he – like most other F1 observers – does not believe Horner can survive the scandal.
It was already known that Ecclestone, for whom Horner was best man at his wedding, had privately advised the long-time Red Bull boss to step down.
And now current F1 CEO Domenicali is believed to also be involved behind the scenes on behalf of the sport’s concerned owners, Liberty Media.
“Even the Americans are putting pressure on Red Bull,” Bach said.
“Stefano Domenicali called Mark Mateschitz at the request of his American bosses.”
Importantly, Horner would retain the support of the energy drink company’s 51% Thai co-owners, but Mark Mateschitz – on the Austrian side of the shareholding – is Red Bull’s largest owner with his 49%.
And Mateschitz, Dr Helmut Marko and even the Verstappen camp reportedly want Horner to leave – potentially to be replaced by Red Bull GmbH co-CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.
