Red-Blue Committee starts as a half-measure

After the parliamentary COFAG investigative committee set up by the SPÖ and FPÖ, the one initiated by the ÖVP will also start on Wednesday. It’s regarding “red-blue abuse of power”, and the focus should be on the current FPÖ chairman Herbert Kickl and his time as a former interior minister. To the ÖVP’s annoyance, the committee is only a half-measure right from the start. Thursday is canceled due to a number of cancellations from invited respondents.

The first word will be given on Wednesday by an old acquaintance in U-committees: as the person providing information – as was the case last week in the COFAG-U-committee – Wolfgang Peschorn, the head of the Financial Procuratorate and therefore “Lawyer of the Republic”, will have the first word. After him it is the turn of the head of internal audit at the Ministry of the Interior. During his survey, the ÖVP is particularly interested in what is happening in the department under former Minister Kickl.

In keeping with this, Kickl’s former general secretary Peter Goldgruber was invited as the last person to provide information on Wednesday. He is the only one entitled to the full interview time of four hours. Peschorn and the head of internal audit are only scheduled for two hours. It’s likely to be significantly shorter on Thursday. However, the MPs must also meet on this day to at least determine that those invited have not shown up.
