AS MANY AS 79 red and white flags with a length of 7,900 meters were unfurled at Losari Beach, Makassar, South Sulawesi. The action was part of a series of ceremonies for the 79th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence held by the Makassar City Government at the City Of Makassar Pavilion, Saturday (17/8).

Makassar Mayor Moh Ramdhan Pomanto said that the unfurling of the red and white flag was aimed at providing a spirit of unity and pride for all the people of Makassar City.

He also conveyed a message to the community to continue to build unity and put aside differences. By doing so, it is hoped that a harmonious, advanced, just and prosperous Makassar City will be created.

“The theme of the ceremony at the Losari Beach Pavilion today takes the concept of a spirit of unity for all, as a symbol of independence and unity. United for All is also reflected in the symbol of independence presented at Losari Beach,” said Danny.

To realize this concept, Danny continued, at today’s independence celebration, two pinisi ships were prepared which will unfurl dozens of flags on the sea.

“The Phinisi ship stretches 79 flags with a span of 100 meters with a total span of 7,900 meters using the Phinisi Adama Ship and the Phinisi Tungguma Ship,” he continued.

The 7,900 meter stretch of the red and white flag above the sea surface of Makassar to the side of the Bugis Pavilion and the Makassar Pavilion enlivened the celebration of Independence Day. (Z-11)
