Recycled oil in tank

Valais » Within two years, Swiss trucks will all be able to run on frying oil. At least that is the promise of Helvoil SA. This newly born company will set up the country’s first HVO fuel plant on the Monthey chemical site. Acronym for Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, this resource comes from used cooking oils to which hydrogen is added.

“Installations of this type already exist elsewhere in Europe, Asia and the United States. Switzerland also imports 50,000 tonnes of HVO fuel per year,” explains Luca Schenk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Helvoil SA, at a press conference.

The company’s ambition is to produce twice as much, which will give 100 million litres. “That’s a lot”, comments the entrepreneur, adding: “Enough to supply all the trucks that cross Switzerland in one year or to refuel all the diesel cars ten times a year.”
