Rector Alexis Corredor assures that the CNE has not formally received the report from the EU mission

Alexis Corredor, rector of the National Electoral Council, assured that this body had not formally received the report from the Electoral Observation Mission of the European Union.

CNE

This week the incidences and recommendations of the EU regarding the regional elections of November 21, 2021 were disclosed.

«Officially we have not received it. In such a way that it is a report that we are finding out from what the press has said,” Corredor told Radio Union.

He added that once the CNE receives the formal report, they will proceed to publicly declare their position on the matter.

However, he was of the opinion that the document of the EU Electoral Observation Mission makes statements that “refute” the preliminary agreements established for the observation to take place.

“We consider that said report has vices, they cannot fail to recognize what is something in the public eye,” he said.

MOE

Isabel Santos, head of the EU Electoral Observation Mission, told a press conference in Brussels on Tuesday that there had been some improvements in the Venezuelan electoral process. She considered the National Electoral Council the “most plural and balanced” of the last 20 years. And she called for several audits and a broader update of the voter registry.

However, he warned that there are still structural deficiencies that the CNE must overcome.

The experts mentioned the following deficiencies in the electoral process of November 21.

  • Lack of legal certainty in the face of arbitrary disqualification of candidates,
  • Extensive use of State resources during the campaign,
  • Unequal access of candidates to the media,
  • Delivery of symbols and cards to minority internal factions of political parties.

Santos stressed that his report does not include the repetition of the elections in the state of Barinas.
