The phenomenon concerns the entire territory and all professions, to varying degrees. In eight years, recruitment difficulties have doubled in Pays-de-la-Loire, notes an INSEE study published this Tuesday. Among the 205,000 recruitment projects anticipated in 2023, “69% are considered difficult by employers in the region, compared to 37% eight years earlier,” indicates the study. “The intensity of hiring is the main factor of tension in the region,” explains the institute, while the unemployment rate is currently 5.6%.
Difficulties that appeared in professions “particularly exposed during the health crisis” can also explain this observation. For example, nurses, self-service employees, cashiers and hospital service agents have become very difficult to find, whereas this was not so much the case before the Covid episode. In the top 10 professions with the greatest increase in recruitment difficulties since 2015 also include building electricians and childminders.
Demographic growth and restrictive working conditions can also explain these tensions. This is why there is an ever-increasing shortage of public transport drivers and home helpers. Not to mention that among professions which were already experiencing these concerns in 2015 (such as agricultural or catering employees), the problem has become even more widespread.
