Recruiting on TikTok, or when HR is ready to do anything to make up for the lack of labor – rts.ch

The labor shortage in Switzerland is pushing employers to redouble their creativity to attract candidates. To reach Generation Z, human resources no longer hesitate to share light videos on TikTok, in order to unearth new talents.

Filmed in one of the most beautiful suites in the world, nestled at the top of the Intercontinental in Geneva, the hotel staff sways to a piece of Beyoncé.

This unusual video clashes with the rigor generally required for an establishment that recently hosted Joe Biden. However, it was the hotel’s human resources manager herself who published it, with the aim of attracting new employees.

Dare to break the codes

“Today, we break the codes a little more, even if we are in luxury. We have a high level of expertise and high standards. That said, we can take pleasure in what we do, in our work. And above all, we dare, it is not because we do serious work that we take ourselves seriously”, assures in the 7:30 p.m. of the RTS Anne Loos, director of human resources of the Intercontinenal Geneva .

From the hotel industry to the technical professions, all sectors affected by the shortage of personnel are now seeking to attract candidates.

Orlatti, Implenia, Romande Energie, Swisscom, Mobilezone or even small local businesses have all spotted the right vein to get in touch with potential apprentices: the short video social network TikTok.

Apprentice recruiters

At the electricity producer and distributor Groupe E, we leave the reins of the account to current apprentices to attract those of tomorrow.

“We are looking among our apprentices for those who already have a community, who are followed on TikTok. They do this very well. They cut, they film, they do this on their own. We have a little right of inspection, but it must be young to young,” says Markus Mosimann, head of vocational training at Group E.

An offbeat “must-have” message

For Edvin Poljak, HR specialist at Talent Suisse, it has become essential to focus on offbeat messages.

“The networks that are developing very well are Instagram and TikTok. It’s a very good way to attract staff today, because it makes people want to. And it gives a good image of the company”, notes the expert.
