Despite all the forecasts, the second ahuehuete that was planted last year on one of the roundregardings on Paseo de la Reforma, and which bears the same name, It is showing signs of having adapted to the hustle and bustle of Mexico City as it is recovering its green foliage.

On a tour made by Grupo Formula, It might be seen that the tree has left its ocher color, traditional for the winter season, and a large part of its branches have a strong green color.

On March 9, 2023, capital authorities removed the first ahuehuete that replaced the palm, following being affected by a couple of car accidents and soil compaction.

The same day that they removed the specimen from the formerly known as Glorieta de la Palma, the director of the Los Encinos Nursery, Adrián Cavazos, presented the new ahuehuete that they would donate, which measures 9 meters high.

Opened in August of last year, the ahuehuete showed signs of poor adaptability because it had lost its green leaves, which is why various experts from the University of Chapingo warned that it might die if it did not have the necessary care.

Despite the warnings from specialists, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Martí Batres, maintained on that occasion that the specimen was in good health and was under constant monitoring.

Why did the palm die?

On April 22, 2022, they removed the palm from the Glorieta de Reforma, following dying from a fungus. On June 5, they planted the new ahuehuete in the place, but due to all the damage it suffered, arborist specialists recommended keeping it isolated so that it might survive. However, its condition did not improve, so they decided to remove it and move it to Viveros Nezahualcóyotl de Xochimilco for its recovery.
