Salzburg/Steyr (OTS) – Record sales of 7.6 billion euros, increase in production at the BMW Group plant in Steyr and investment offensive in the field of electromobility: BMW Group will bring e-drive production to Austria in 2022.
In 2022, the BMW Group in Austria achieved a new record year: With sales of around 7.6 billion euros, the company achieved the highest sales in the company’s history. With a record market share of 8.6 percent, the company once once more ranks third among all automobile manufacturers in Austria. As a stable employer, employment might be further expanded. In addition, more than 309 million euros were invested in Austria in 2022 – this corresponds to well over one million euros per working day.
“2022 was another challenging year for us in several areas – but ultimately also very successful. For me, the result clearly underlines the high performance of my colleagues here in Austria. Your commitment, our attractive range of products and our powerful network of dealer partners have made us the most successful premium automobile manufacturer in Austria in the past financial year. It is precisely this comprehensive commitment in and for Austria that our customers appreciate. And that is exactly what connects us to Austria to a large extent.”
says Christian Morawa, CEO BMW Austria, on the results.
Over 18,500 BMW and MINI models were newly registered in 2022 – this continues to make the BMW Group the most successful premium manufacturer in Austria.
There was a significant increase in new registrations in the electric segment: the BMW Group already offers a unique range of electric vehicles and will continue its e-offensive in 2022 with an increase of 35 percent. In the previous year, more than 11 percent of all electric cars sold in Austria were from BMWs and MINIs. The BMW brand recorded enormous growth of over 60 percent in this area compared to the same period of the previous year. As a result of this strong increase, the BMW brand climbed to third place in the overall segment of fully electric vehicles in Austria.
In 2022, the BMW Group plant in Steyr brought the next generation of electric drive production to Austria: more than one billion euros will be invested in Austria by 2030.
“The BMW Group’s decision to produce next-generation electric drives in Steyr is a real milestone in the history of our site. The Steyr plant stands for competence, flexibility and international competitiveness. This also underscores our stable performance in the last challenging financial year.”
says Klaus von Moltke, who has been the new managing director of the BMW Group plant in Steyr since 2022.
