Record TV selects and signs multi-year contract with Eutelsat, leveraging unparalleled coverage from EUTELSAT 65 West A following redefinition of C-band in Brazil

Record TV has signed a multi-year agreement with Eutelsat Communications (Euronext Paris: ETL) (Paris:ETL) for capacity on its satellite EUTELSAT 65 West A. Record TV is a Brazilian media company focused on content production and distribution in Brazil and abroad. Record TV is one of the biggest TV networks in Brazil.

The partnership allows Record TV to transparently migrate 15 HD channels to the EUTELSAT 65 West A satellite, avoiding interference generated by the ongoing 5G deployment in the country. Brazil is rolling out 5G in the 3.5GHz band, which is currently used to support satellite TV services in the C-band. EUTELSAT 65 West A’s planned C-band is a unique frequency band that is not affected for the launch of 5G. The decision was supported by an extensive analysis conducted by Record TV’s technical team in endorsing EUTELSAT 65 WestT A, planned C band, as having no potential 5G interference.

Migration of services took place under the solution ‘Planned C-Band’ by Eutelsat, developed to offer Brazilian broadcasters a simple procedure to adapt or replace equipment and reposition antennas in the 65°W orbital position. The planned C-band is also named as C-band AP30B frequencies, with frequencies ranging from 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz, when starting 800MHz above 5G frequencies in Brazil. Thus, EUTELSAT 65 West A enables profitable geographic expansion for broadcasters as filters do not need to be installed to prevent 5G interference.

Commenting on the agreement, José Ignacio González-Núñez, Senior Vice President of Video at Eutelsat Americas, said: “We are pleased to welcome Record TV to EUTELSAT 65 West A. Our ‘Planned C-Band’ solution offers a perfect and cost-effective proposition for Brazilian broadcasters who need to migrate their signals away from the lower end of the C-band spectrum, while offering them unparalleled coverage of the Brazilian market. This choice made by Record TV reinforces the video neighborhood of EUTELSAT 65 West A, as well as Eutelsat’s video services.”

Geraldo Marques, broadcast engineer at Record TV, said: “As one of the largest TV networks in Brazil, Record TV requires robust distribution of content via satellite. With more than a hundred stations spread across the entire Brazilian territory, we reach audiences across the entire national territory and need to guarantee superior service to viewers who demand the highest quality of reception. We are pleased to have Eutelsat as one of the main partners.”
