Asunción, IP Agency.- This Friday followingnoon, a shipment of cocaine ready to be sent to Europe was seized, in what represents the largest drug seizure at the Silvio Pettirossi Airport.
These are regarding 10 pallets of starch and flour that contained disguised cocaine. According to the first reviews, it is estimated that each pallet would have regarding 160 kilos, reported the Minister of the Interior, Enrique Riera.
The first investigations indicate that it would be 1,600 kg of cocaine. The import air route was Asunción-Spain and the final destination was Amsterdam, Holland.
“We want to send a very clear message: Paraguay is not going to be the route for illicit drug trafficking,” said Minister Riera.
It would be an organization with a lot of infrastructure, since meticulous work was observed to hide cocaine among processed agricultural products.
«We are surprised by the quality with which pollution is camouflaged. It was a successful operation following 8 months of intelligence work,” reported the director of the DNIT, Oscar Orué, an institution that was part of the investigative work. The estimated damage is 70 million euros, he added.
The intelligence work involved the Ministry of the Interior, the National Directorate of Tax Revenue (DNIT) and the National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (Dinac).
The minister highlighted the joint work that allowed the drugs to be found in Paraguay, when previously this type of shipments were in the news due to their seizure in the European ports of destination.
The case is in the hands of the State Attorney General’s Office, in addition to the Government already informing its Dutch counterparts regarding this procedure.
