Released Friday on the PlayStation 5, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” has already sold more than 2.5 million copies, becoming the fastest-selling video game in the history of the Sony console during of the first 24 hours, according to the Japanese group.

“On behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment, I would like to thank the fans,” commented Eric Lempel, vice president of the subsidiary, quoted in a press release Monday.
Developed by Insomniac Games in collaboration with PlayStation Studios and Marvel Games, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” was expected to be one of the biggest releases of the year on PS5.
Spider-Man is playable as the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker, as well as the Hispanic-African-American teenager Miles Morales, who appeared in the comics in 2011.
The action takes place in Marvel Studios’ New York and the game is supposed to push the console to its technological limits.
“Designed from the ground up to take advantage of the unique features of the PlayStation 5, the goal was to massively expand on the action, storylines and features of the first two games,” said Eric Lempel.
In the 2000s, the box office success of superhero films propelled Spider-Man to the forefront of the series of games developed from 2018 by Insomniac Games for Sony, which bought this studio the next year.
