The coach of the Argentine National Team shared his reflections following his team’s qualification to the World Cup final.
“In the first minutes they handled the ball, we knew it might happen. Their midfield is very difficult to score. We understood that the game had to be played like that. We did what we had to do,” he said.
He said that the final result was key to generating rotation among the footballers: “Winning like this, and before a final, is the best rest, the best remedy there can be. We were able to make all the field players play, for me that’s critical.”
On Messi, the DT did not skimp on praise: “Sometimes it seems that we say it because we are Argentines, but I think that Messi is the best in history. I have no doubt. He generates things in his teammates, in people. It’s lucky and a privilege to have the Celeste and Blanca on”.
“I try not to get excited. I’m in the dream place for any Argentine. When you represent your country it’s impossible not to do what these guys do, it’s exciting.”
At the end, he left a greeting for the fans: “When we lost to Arabia, the people were with us. We felt everyone’s support and that is unmatched. We all went in the same direction. We all want the common good, we are all fans of the Celestial and White”.
