The three victims – a man and two women – were shot and killed in detached houses where they lived with their families. Head of investigation Annika Teckner describes the murders as particularly reckless and brutal.
– You play a game with real people’s lives, she says to the news agency TT in connection with the verdict in Södertörn district court on Wednesday.
The boys were 15 and 16 years old when the murders were committed in Västberga and Tullinge south of Stockholm last year.
The sentences are far more severe than in previous cases where teenagers have been charged with murder.
Two 16-year-olds and a 22-year-old have also been convicted of complicity in the murders.
Broke into detached houses
On 12 October 2023, a masked and armed person enters through the veranda door of a detached house in Västberga and kills a 40-year-old father of young children. Up a flight of stairs, he meets a woman with a small child in her arms. He urges her to turn around before shooting her in the back.
The woman, who is a doctor, was seriously injured. The daughter is also slightly injured as the shot goes through the mother and a stuffed animal.
According to the head of the investigation, both the woman and the child could have been killed if the bullet had hit a few centimeters to the side. The woman stuffed her hand into the gunshot wound and thus managed to stop the bleeding.
A day later, two women aged 20 and 60 respectively are shot and killed in a detached house in Tullinge. In a taxi nearby, a 16-year-old is arrested with an automatic weapon.
Bragging about the kills
– The same perpetrator enters people’s homes two days in a row, of people he does not know, shoots himself into the houses, searches and recklessly shoots the people he encounters. It is so incredibly brutal, says Teckner.
The boy who was sentenced to twelve years in prison is now 17 years old. He was found guilty of three murders and attempted murder of seven others, five children and two adults, who were in the homes, where two families with children lived.
The now 16-year-old boy was sentenced to ten years for inciting the murders and attempted murders. According to the prosecution, he ordered the murders as if he were playing a game.
– He sends people out to kill and later brags about it. It is so raw that it feels as if there is no human doing this, says Teckner.
Instructions from abroad?
The police believe that the boy has received instructions from someone abroad.
– There is a group of people about whom much has been written, and who are hiding in Turkey, Iran and Iraq. There are some in that clique, I would think.
In the same trial, a 22-year-old man was sentenced to 16 years in prison for complicity in the shootings, as well as for complicity in aggravated arson.
At the same time, a 16-year-old girl was sentenced to compulsory youth care for complicity in the shootings.
