Record-Breaking Powerball Jackpot Sold in Portland, Oregon: Did You Win?

Did you buy a ticket in Portland for this weekend’s Powerball drawing? You might be a billionaire now.

Oregon Lottery officials just announced that the winning ticket for the fourth largest jackpot in Powerball history was sold in Portland on April 6.

The $1.326 billion jackpot was the eighth largest lottery jackpot in the United States and the largest jackpot won in Oregon. The winning numbers were 22, 27, 44, 52, 69 and Powerball 9. The Power Play multiplier was 3X.

“I want to congratulate the winner on this life-changing moment. No one in Oregon has ever won a prize on this scale, and it’s very exciting for our staff and players,” said Oregon Lottery Director Mike Wells.

It may be a while before we find out who the lucky winner is because they have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their jackpot. State law, with few exceptions, does not allow winners to claim the prize anonymously.

Lottery officials do not reveal the exact location that sold the winning ticket until the prize has been claimed, but they did tell The Oregonian/OregonLive that it was purchased in the 97218 ZIP code, which includes Portland International Airport and the Cully neighborhood.

The previous record lottery win in Oregon was a $340 million Powerball jackpot in 2005.

Most of the million-dollar lottery winners in Oregon from the last year were playing Megabucks. They include:

David Schultze, a 68-year-old retiree from Milwaukie won the $8.4 million Megabucks jackpot on Jan. 24, 2024.

John Exley, a 60-year-old from North Bonneville, Washington, won $1 million playing Keno in Oregon City on Dec. 23, 2023.

Mill City’s Thomas Willard, 77, won $1 million playing Powerball in the Oct. 9, 2023, drawing.

Carl Meinig, 80, of Portland won a $3.3 million Megabucks jackpot on Aug. 2, 2023.

Ray Jones, 59, of Lake Oswego won a $8.2 million Megabucks jackpot on June 7, 2023.

In a press release regarding the winning Megabucks ticket in January, Oregon Lottery said that the state has earned more than $15.5 billion for economic development, education, state parks, veteran services, and watershed enhancements from lottery games since 1985.
