This Friday, the King’s prosecutor of Charleroi, Vincent Fiasse, and the director general of the Federal Judicial Police, Éric Snoeck, provided details on the very large-scale police operation carried out in the narcotics world on Wednesday 26 April morning.
A work launched a year ago and therefore meticulous work which led, this week, to a series of searches both in the Charleroi region, in Binche and in the Liège region, as well as 22 warrants for stop. Images and figures of the results of this operation, on a scale rarely seen in the Charleroi region and even in Wallonia, have been released. As we knew, 600 police officers were mobilized for this operation.
“There are 44 searches carried out simultaneously, 42 in the district of Charleroi, two in that of Liège. For five of them, reinforcement from the special units of the Federal Judicial Police was required. In total, we discovered and dismantled 12 cannabis plantations (10 in the district of Charleroi, two in Liège), which represents nearly 10,000 plants. 22 people were arrested and placed under arrest warrant by the investigating judge, the head of criminal organization, cultivation and possession of cannabis. Some are also targeted for possession of weapons. »
11 arrest warrants confirmed
Concerning these people deprived of their freedom, we also learn that 11 of them, mainly Albanian nationals illegally residing in Belgium, appeared before the Charleroi council chamber on Friday.
These individuals, most of whom were arrested in Jumet on Wednesday, are suspected of being involved in cannabis cultivation, maintenance of facilities, etc. “Gardeners”, as we say in the jargon. These 11 people saw their arrest warrant confirmed by the council chamber. The other people will appear next Tuesday, May 2, before the council chambers.
Luxury cars and Rolexes
Numerous seizures were made at the various police intervention sites. We are talking regarding 100,000 euros in cash, as well as 14 vehicles (“including a certain number of high, even very high-end”, specifies Vincent Fiasse), many clothes, bags and luxury watches (in particular from the brand Rolex), several tens of kilos of cannabis flowers. Finally, handguns and an assault rifle were discovered and seized.
“The Federal Judicial Police as a whole aims to tackle serious and organized crime. The PJF of Charleroi, assisted by all the PJFs of the French-speaking and German-speaking districts, demonstrates once once more the added value of the complex and specialized investigations carried out by the experts of the judicial pillar”, commented Éric Snoeck.
