This Sunday, July 16, China reached a historical heat record by registering a temperature of 52.2 degrees Celsius.

The record occurred in the Sanbao region and corresponds to the highest temperature the country has ever had.

“Soon there will be more records like these”

The journalist specializing in Meteorology from Meganoticias, Alejandro Sepulvedaexplained that with this record, the Asian giant is the fifth country to exceed 50 degrees Celsius during 2023.

China is “the fifth country to exceed 50°C this year, joining the Iran, Oman, Mexico and the United States”, the specialist specified, adding that this is still “not official”.

Sepúlveda also warned that “soon there will be more records like these or even worse.”

Heat wave affects the United States and Europe

In Europe there is also an alert for extreme high temperatures. In the case of Italy, for example, 16 cities are on red alert, with highs of up to 36 and 37 ºC.

The Spanish meteorological agency (Aemet) issued orange warnings for high temperatures (38 to 42º C) in large areas of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands on Monday; in addition to red warning (extreme danger), also on Monday, in areas of Andalusia and on Tuesday in Aragon, Catalonia and Mallorca (42 to 44º C).

In the case of the United States, the country expects a heat wave ‘extremely dangerous’ from California to Texasaccording to the US National Weather Service (NWS).

In Death Valley, California, the thermometer rose to 51° C and this Sunday up to 54 degrees are expected.
