The weeks of poker around Moises Caicedo (21) are over.

According to consistent media reports, the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder is moving to Chelsea. And that for the record sum of around 135 million euros!

Never before has a player moved to the Premier League for a higher sum. Chelsea also paid 121 million euros for Enzo Fernandez in the winter. Now Caicedo forms with him the 256 million midfield!

It’s the end of a completely crazy game of poker: Caicedo already wanted to leave in winter. At the time, Arsenal were interested in the Ecuadorian but Brighton stayed firm and didn’t sell him. A few weeks ago, Caicedo reached an agreement with Chelsea, but the clubs mightn’t come to an agreement.

Caicedo: Klopp already revealed Liverpool agreement

So Liverpool, coached by Jürgen Klopp, entered the negotiations. With Brighton, there was a quick deal.

Klopp therefore said on Friday: “I was told I can confirm that there is agreement between the clubs on the Caicedo deal. With the player – we’ll have to see that.”

And right there was the problem! A few hours following the Klopp-PK, Caicedo let it be known: he does not want to go to Liverpool! He had given his word to Chelsea, so he didn’t want to back down.

Chelsea were actually already out of the running as the Blues first wanted Romeo Lavia (19) from Southampton and then Tyler Adams (23) from Leeds United. After Caicedo’s rejection of Liverpool, however, the negotiations picked up speed once more – and have now apparently come to an end.

Chelsea would have spent an incredible 342 million euros on the transfer market this summer! Already last winter it was 329 million – mainly through Fernandez and Mykhaylo Mudryk (70 million). After all, 253.9 million came back into the register this summer – mainly due to the sales of Kai Havertz (75 million) and Mason Mount (64.3 million).
