Vienna (OTS) – The ORF Audience Council made the following recommendation in its plenary session on Thursday, June 22, 2023, chaired by Mag. Walter Marschitz:
Recommendation Program Committee June 21, 2023
The ORF Audience Council survey on audience requirements and expectations in connection with program orders
— Promoting an understanding of economic relationships, — Promoting an understanding of European integration and — Promoting an understanding of questions relating to European security policy and comprehensive national defence
has made it clear that these are commissions relevant to the public. Interest and usage are consistently high. However, when it comes to satisfaction with the offers, the ORF needs to take action.
Economy: In the area of economy, the audience expects more information on the topics of apprenticeship, training and careers, on economic activity in Austria and on Austrian companies as well as on the topics of the labor market, innovation and digitization. The Public Council therefore recommends that the management further develop the reporting in line with these requirements. Developing or expanding the range of offers in the areas of apprenticeship, training and jobs are of great importance, especially with regard to younger target groups. The current range of information and services in this area is insufficient, as the Public Council has been pointing out for years.
Europe: In the Europe area, the audience expects more reporting on European policy issues in and from Austria, on European cohesion and integration, on the relationship between the EU and other countries, and on everyday life, culture and society in other countries. The latter is particularly important to younger target groups. The Audience Council therefore calls for a corresponding further development of reporting. With the magazine “Fokus Europa” launched in 2023, the management has already taken an important step that is to be followed by others.
Security: In the area of security policy and national defence, it is evident that the public, in addition to information regarding international, European and Austrian security policy, is particularly interested in reporting on the topic of cyber security. Against this background, the Public Council calls for more service-oriented reporting on digitization and security issues.
