The surgical oncology consultant explained that rectal tumors also have risk indicators, and their symptoms include:

• Change in bowel habits, such as diarrhea, constipation or more frequent bowel movements

• Dark or red blood in the stool

• Mucus in stool

• Abdominal pain

• Painful bowel movements

• Anemia due to iron deficiency

• A feeling that the bowel does not empty completely

• Unexplained weight loss

He stressed that when a tumor in the rectum is suspected, an anal speculum and sample must be performed, then diagnostic x-rays to determine the stage of the tumor, and then the treatment journey begins, which may require chemotherapy and radiation treatment before the operation to reduce the chance of reflux following reviewing the specialist doctor.
