CASES of bullying still frequently occur and apparently do not only have a direct impact on the victim, but also spread to the surrounding environment.

The father of a doctor named Aulia Risma Lestari was known to have died on Tuesday (27/8). The health condition of Doctor Aulia’s father had continued to decline after his daughter died.

Aulia was a student of the Anesthesia Specialist Doctor Education Program (PPDS) at Diponegoro University (Undip) who allegedly committed suicide due to bullying. She was found dead in her boarding house, Monday (12/8) night. According to police, Aulia allegedly died after injecting a sedative into her body.

The issue of bullying must be taken seriously. It is also important for parents to recognize the signs that someone is a victim, so that they can immediately take appropriate action. However, what if the signs that are present are actually those closest to us who are the perpetrators of bullying?

Quoting from the SOA (Parents & Children’s Friend) website, a child education and parenting information website founded and developed by Hanlie Muliani, M.Psi, Psi., there are 4 signs that parents should recognize that their child has the potential to become a bully.

1. Aggressive

If a child frequently displays aggressive behavior towards others, such as hitting, pushing, or swearing, this could be a danger sign.

2. Lack of Empathy

Although often overlooked, empathy is an important skill. If your child seems indifferent to the feelings of others or shows little remorse for hurting others, parents need to take decisive action.

3. Often Breaks the Rules

If a child consistently ignores rules, both at home and at school, this may be a sign of a lack of respect and could be a sign of a tendency towards bullying behavior.

4. Peer Pressure

If children tend to like hanging out with groups of children who encourage negative behavior, this can influence children to become perpetrators of bullying. (M-3)
