Luis Fernandez, an emblematic figure as a former player and coach of Paris Saint-Germain, recently expressed great disappointment with the attitude adopted by his favorite club regarding former players.
Former iconic player and legendary coach of Paris Saint-Germain, Luis Fernandez, recently expressed his deep disappointment with the attitude of his beloved club. In an in-depth interview with Parisian, Fernandez revealed the lack of recognition he has felt from PSG for several months. As he prepares to receive the Legion of Honor from Michel Platini, Fernandez would have liked to organize the ceremony at the Parc des Princes, a symbolic place which played a major role in his career, where he played 273 matches and led 244 meetings.
Fernandez shared his efforts to make this idea a reality within the Parc des Princes, but revealed a series of difficulties. He explained : “I tried everything to organize this at the Parc des Princes. I was offered a lounge for 20 or 30 people, without access to the stand. My guests would therefore not have been able to attend the match. I’m not going to leave them on the sidewalk. And then, I’m going to invite between 150 and 200 people: former members of the French team, former PSG players, my friends, my family… PSG had no solution. Everything was complicated. »
This refusal opens a window onto a broader feeling of non-recognition of former PSG players, according to Fernandez. He underlined his disappointment in these terms: “Yes, I am disappointed because at PSG, recognition of veterans does not exist. I already realized it on the evening of PSG-Milan. I wanted to enter the square to show an Italian friend around and I was refused access. » These comments highlight a deeper malaise within the club, where emblematic figures seem to face obstacles in terms of recognition and privileged treatment.
