Recital by Alexandre Kantorow in La Chaux-de-Fonds

As part of its 130th anniversary, the music room of La Chaux-de-Fonds welcomes Thursday at 7:30 p.m. the virtuoso pianist Alexandre Kantorow, aged 25. The French musician, courted from all sides, recorded a new CD there in February.

Here it is, finally, the concert we have been thinking regarding for so long: the young French pianist Alexandre Kantorow won, in June 2019, the gold medal and the Grand Prix of the Tchaikovsky competition, one of the most prestigious classical music competitions, thus becoming the first Frenchman to achieve this high distinction”, explained the organizers.

The piano czar, who also received a Victoire de la Musique in 2020, will play pieces by Brahms, Schubert and Liszt. The musician had come in February to the music room, a place renowned throughout the world for its exceptional acoustics, to record his latest CD.

‘It’s rare to have a concert hall, large and made to project for an audience, and to have so much privacy at the same time,’ Alexandre Kantorow told Keystone-ATS. ‘It’s a miraculous place for acoustics. We have this good balance. Even being alone in the room, we hear the sound homogeneously. We have all the possibilities to make good music,” he added.

Alexandre Kantorow particularly appreciates the historic piano in the music room, which also attracts many pianists. ‘Old instruments capture a lot of soul and personality. This piano has warm and deep sounds. We have the possibility to play a lot with the pedals, which will blur the sounds. We can thus play with the resonance of these, which works particularly well in this room,” added the Frenchman.

The pianist becomes a regular at the place. He came there to record his previous album last year, which will be released in the fall. This will be followed by another CD, recorded in February.
