During the ceremony to commemorate the earthquake and tsunami of 27-F in 2010, President Sebastián Piñera reported that one more Chilean managed to cross the Ukrainian border in the direction of Poland, thus increasing to six compatriots that are already outside the zone of confrontation.

“We already have six Chileans who they have managed to cross the border and are safe with their families. This morning another Chilean managed to cross with his wife and son and they were in trouble and received the help of our staff from the Chilean embassy and consulate in Polandwhich is concurrent with Ukraine,” said Piñera.

Through his official Instagram account, the president thanked “all those who are working tirelessly and silently so that Chileans in Ukraine find refuge and are safe and sound”. Text that was also accompanied by a video in which he is seen chatting by video call with Gonzalo Sáez, one of the Chileans who managed to cross the border.

“We spent regarding twenty-four hours of terror to get out of Ukraine with the chaos that there was, but fortunately we are now in Poland a little calmer, “said Sáez.

Meanwhile, the president assured that the aid measure towards the compatriots who are on the border, as reception centers for those who leave Ukraine in the direction of Poland, are already fully operational.

“The two reception centers are already up and running very quickly in conjunction with Colombia and they are already receiving the Chileans, giving them the help they need,” he said.

Last Saturday, February 26, Piñera had indicated that there were still 9 Chileans to cross the border, but unfortunately There are serious communication problems. “Some Chileans live in very isolated and insecure areas, but we are doing all our effort to maintain contact with them,” the president assured.
