The past two days have been characterized by thunderstorms, some of them stormy, in addition to hailstones five to six centimeters in size falling from the sky, there have been heavy gusts of wind in many places.
A gust of 120 km/h was measured in Bad Radkersburg, the previous station record in the south-east of Styria over all months was 87 km/h. But there were also gusts of almost 90 km/h in Villach and Klagenfurt.
A total of 85,000 lightning discharges have been recorded in Austria since Tuesday, and there were a good 65,000 lightning strikes on Wednesday alone.

Up to 38 degrees possible
Today’s Thursday will once more bring strong thunderstorms in the south and south-east, but the greatest risk of thunderstorms has been averted. The heat also pauses for a day and is temporarily not an issue, with maximum values of 20 to 29 degrees you can ventilate properly.

Temperatures will rise at the weekend

With the help of a hair dryer, the temperatures are climbing Saturday especially north of the Alps to 35 to 38 degrees, locally the existing July records are within reach.

The new week will also bring heat and thunderstorms, from Carinthia to the Weinviertel, the 30-degree mark should be clearly exceeded up to and including Wednesday. Only then does the heat wave appear to have finally come to an end.
