PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his highest gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the Indonesian nation and people to the athletes who have fought hard at the 2024 Paris Olympics and given extraordinary pride to the nation and people of Indonesia.
Indonesia managed to win two gold medals and one bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Veddriq Leonardo won a gold medal in the men’s speed rock climbing event. Then Rizky Juniansyah won a gold medal in the men’s 73 kg weightlifting event, and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung won a bronze medal in the women’s singles badminton event.
“This raises optimism, raises the hopes of other Indonesian athletes to compete to achieve better achievements in other international events,” said Jokowi at the State Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (15/8) when welcoming the athletes and giving bonus prizes.
Jokowi sees that this success is not instant, but rather a long process carried out by all parties, both in relation to early talent identification, with long-term and ongoing training, hard work by coaches, and a supportive team.
“And all sports branches that have contributed to achieving proud achievements,” said Jokowi.

As a form of appreciation for this proud achievement, the government has prepared a bonus of IDR 6 billion for winning a gold medal, IDR 1.65 billion for winning a bronze medal, and IDR 2.75 billion for coaches whose athletes win gold medals, and coaches whose athletes win bronze medals will receive IDR 675 million.
“And Rp250 million for athletes who do not get medals as a form of appreciation from the government,” said Jokowi.
The President asked for this bonus to be utilized as well as possible to motivate, improve achievements, and then return to make the name of the nation and country proud in the world arena. (Z-1)
