Recap: Unforgettable 100% French Rap Night at the 2023 MURAL Festival

2023-06-19 00:40:26

100% French rap evening last night to mark the end of the 2023 edition of the MURAL Festival, with a big line-up of local artists opening for Dinos. Despite the capricious weather, the rain and a ground worthy of a 4-wheeled terrain last night, the public responded timidly present at the start of the evening.

This year we were also entitled to a new location for the Mile-End stage at the foot of the WALLA VOLO mural by illustrator Ola VOLO. Difficult task of relocating to a location in the heart of a residential, central area that is accessible, safe and of high capacity, without losing the vibe of Saint-Laurent and what makes the charm of Mural and street-art.

Dinos, long awaited

It is 9:00 p.m., the nugget of French rap from the Cité des 4000 enters the stage. Human tide settling in to attend the 3rd visit to Montreal of Dinos, alias Dinos Punchlinovic. We retain from this performance the large selection of the rapper from La Courneuve, his presence and his ease on stage with in particular pearls of texts and instrumentals.

The performance is controlled, the artist is powerful on stage. The rain has certainly cooled the public present last night, but the evening is successful. We had the right to the classics Placebo, Helsinki, Way of life, By love, Minus one, XNXX or Paranoidtaken from the albums Winter in Paris, Faith, Taciturn et Stamina. We regret a little the quality of the sound system yesterday. We heard more the instrumental than the voice of Dinos at times, a bit of a shame on this one.

We must emphasize the strength 93 measures on stage, exit flash and conquered public, a beautiful moment, highlight of the evening. We also loved hearing the mythical sound Namekwhich reminds us of the beginnings of Dinos Punchlinovic in 2015. In short, we love having Dinos in Montreal and we hope to see him again very soon!

Nice local line-up to get through the rain

For this closing night of the Mile-End Stage, we’re starting with the NoKIiché duo that we noticed at events such as Piknic Electronik, Moonshine, or even last year with Kaaris and Rowjay during the Mural festival.

It’s not an easy mission to open a 100% French rap evening on a Saturday in happy hour mode under heavy rain and a shy audience, but we highlight the quality of NoKliché’s selections, the variety of influences, the controlled transitions and the classics of the French rap passing from IAM to Hamza or even PNL. Duo to follow that will never stop making us dance and liven up the Montreal nightlife.

The rain continues, the public arrives (very) quietly, it’s Rymz’s turn to take the microphone for a live performance. “The Rainmaker” and his good humor warms the public with sounds from his latest album One more day in paradise. Joined by D4vidlee on stage, we love the presence of Rymz, his flow, the quality of the instrumentals and a real gift for making the rain fall!

The night settles in quietly and we warm up with High Klassified, a Montreal artist-producer who has been exploding for a few years. Known for collaborations with Apashe or Imanu, Kevin Vincent, alias High Klassified, warmed up Mural’s audience with a varied selection.

Not only 100% French, but hey, we liked going through the rain (again), with SCH, Koba laD, but also J Hus or Sheck Wes.
